As usual, all committee positions will come up for election at this AGM, and you are welcome to nominate to be a member of the Gifted WA Committee. If you would like to nominate for a position on the Gifted WA Committee, please complete the nomination form HERE by the COB Monday 11th November 2024 (you will need the details of a Gifted WA member who has agreed to nominate you).

Please be aware that our Constitution does stipulate the make-up of the Committee, so this needs to be considered when selecting committee members. This criteria can be found on Page V of the Gifted WA Constitution (section 10:1B). The Gifted WA Committee has an online meeting once a month, so members in both metro and regional areas of WA are welcome to nominate. Members who nominate and are not selected for the Committee are encouraged to participate in the running of Gifted WA through our sub-committees.

    * Gifted WA Committee consists of the following positions:

    (a) a Chairperson

    (b) a Vice-Chairperson

    (c) a Secretary

    (d) a Treasurer

    (e) General Committee Members (5)

The AGM will be preceded by Amanda's presentation that will commence at 6:00pm.

In this presentation, Amanda Rogers introduces her ABCD Behaviour Journal, a tool designed to shift how we understand and respond to twice-exceptional (2E) children’s behaviours. By moving beyond punitive consequences and exploring behaviour through a curiosity-driven lens, this framework encourages teachers and parents to focus on the underlying causes rather than surface-level ‘problems’. The journal fosters dual empathy, helping educators become investigators who adapt environments and strategies to meet the unique needs of 2E children. Participants will leave equipped with proactive approaches to support the wellbeing and development of gifted, twice-exceptional, and curious learners.

Amanda is a passionate advocate for gifted and twice-exceptional (2E) learners, drawing from her personal and professional experiences as a 2E individual and parent to two 2E children. With over two decades of teaching experience across primary and secondary education in Australia and England, Amanda specialises in developing critical and creative thinking skills, executive functioning, and fostering independent learning.

She holds qualifications in LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, counselling, and disability, and has led gifted education programs. Amanda created PHILOSO-BRICK®, a workshop that promotes social-emotional growth and critical thinking. Amanda also volunteers as the National Gifted Children’s Coordinator for Mensa Australia.

Kind regards,
Lara Ognenis
