Western Australia's association for gifted support, advocacy and resources
Philosophy begins with wonder - which makes it a perfect fit to cater for and challenge students and young people with curious and inquisitive minds. As a subject, Philosophy is an ancient discipline that holds considerable relevance and importance in the modern world. The main aim of Philosophy is to search for wisdom and through the use of reason and dialogue-based discussion, Philosophy fosters high level critical, creative and collaborative thinking in those that practice it. Philosophy is a practical, highly engaging and fascinating subject.
In this lively, practical based session Mr Andrew Rogers from St Mark's Anglican Community School and Dr Ray Driehuis from Perth Modern School who represent APIS WA will share their methodology for engaging, inspiring and developing their students in the subject. During this session you will learn some starting points for asking Philosophical questions, key tips for developing skills of reasoning and critical thinking and ideas as to how you can bring the subject to life in your learning environment (be that home, classroom, car or kitchen table).
This PD is suitable for teachers, parents and other key stakeholders interested in supporting gifted young people.
